Abstract

The paper discusses an isotropic constitutive model for graphite that has different behavior in compression and tension. The model was derived using continuum principles of engineering mechanics. It is derived using a strain energy function based on the integrity basis proposed by Green and Mkrtichian. Since the function is a linear combination of invariants terms like anisotropy or radiation damage can be linearly combined to expand the function.
