    Abstract

The best of public administration and community development share a common goal: engaging and empowering members of the community. Yet the practice of both often falls short of this ideal. Despite the overlap of goals and challenges, the fields of public administration and community development do not spend enough time sharing insights with each other. In an ambitious, new, edited volume, Community Development and Public Administration Theory , Nickels and Rivera connect the two disciplines and ground both firmly in the tradition of New Public Service. Using a variety of case studies, the many contributors to this collection highlight how citizens can be engaged in community development for more equitable and sustainable outcomes.
