Abstract
In this paper, discussion and comparison of percent error between empirical temperature coefficients and theoretical temperature coefficients were made. The applicable temperature ranges for empirical temperature coefficients were also discussed in this paper. After considering the opposite combined effects of oxygen deficit and viscosity of liquid on oxygen transfer rate, it was found that viscosity of liquid is the main factor affecting oxygen transfer rate. The lower temperature is not favorable for oxygen transfer due to the higher viscosity. The lower the liquid temperature, the lower the oxygen transfer rate would be. Based on this study, it is recommended that the temperature, which is the average maximum temperature expected in the aeration tank mixed liquors, should be used in the calculation of oxygenation capacity and in the selection of surface aerators for wastewater treatment. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC 1985
