Abstract
In this keynote address to the Friday March 15, 2024 Cuyahoga County Conference on Social Welfare , I juxtapose an original and thick initial conceptualization of human safety, which I inductively developed from an examination of existing theory of human need (Doyal & Gough, 1991; Gough, 2017; Ryan & Deci, 2017), as illustrated in the two Figure 1s of my earlier work on human injustice ( Dover, 2019 ) and on human needs ( Dover, 2023 ). In doing so, I augmented the phrasing of the 11 Intermediate Needs of theory of human need (THN) by introducing the use of safety-informed terminology that was already implicit in the original theory. Please see the post-delivery note and properly bold-faced and italicized revised list of intermediate needs on page 8 of the PDF of this work attached.
